This is my late mother, Irene. She was a woman of many talents. She was a great cook and was an aspiring baker too. But she never really had the chance to develop her baking skills. She accepted orders here and there but nothing really big. I remember she took a course once but that was it. Through her I knew the brand Wilton. She got instruction books from her cousins who live abroad and there she learned the basics. I watched her work all the time and I got acquainted to it pretty early. I think I was barely out of my elementary years. She loved to bake chiffon, chocolate, pineapple upside down and custard cakes. Ever since then, my interest in baking remained, well, just that...an interest. I did not do anything beyond that. I was too busy being a young and carefree girl.

Fast forwarding to the time when I moved to Sweden with my family, that was when I started to do things on my own. Baking was one of them. My kids do have birthdays and no birthday would be complete without a cake. In the beginning we just bought from the bakery here and I am sorry to say, I am not really happy with the cakes that you can buy in the Konditori (confectionery) here. I was not used to eating a lot of whipped cream in or on a cake. Because of that my interest in baking was piqued again and I started collecting baking books and recipes and took it from there.

One disaster cake after another. That's how it was for me in the beginning. But I never gave up. I opted to bake brownies, cupcakes and cookies instead since those were easier until I got the hang of it. I mean REALLY got the hang of it that I even dared to bake a cake again. :) I guess it would be safe to say that I became a mediocre baker after that. But as the cliche goes, practice makes perfect, right?

Well, that is what I am doing now. Practicing and having fun while at it! This is what my blog is all about. My adventures in baking...be it a success or another disaster. It doesn't really matter. What is important is that I am having fun while I am learning! I want to document my progress (if there would be some). I will be posting some pictures too so it would be more fun to see any development, not only in baking, but dare i say this...also in decorating! LOL!

My interest has turned into passion as the years go by. So let us see where this passion takes me.
